Hijabi's Do It Best...

This video here just gave me life. I haven't really been motivated into getting super dressed up lately. It's been more about attempting to wear something clean. That is why you have not seen my beautiful face in so long. But I'm at the home stretch. 5 pm on Saturday, I'll officially be done with all my undergrad duties, with the exception of 2 grad school applications. Alhamdulillah, I cannot wait.

Watching this video really made me giddy inside. There are so many different styles and ideas that I have wanted to try, but I simply haven't. I think I have graduated from the bow tie phase of my life. They might make an appearance here or there, but they aren't going to be a staple in my wardrobe any more.

I love watching hijabi's do things that people don't expect of them. Just watch and see what I'm talking about. And thank you for creating this video. It really did just give me life this sad Monday morning before finals.

The definition of beauty...

So many times we get on the internet looking for inspiration, finding women that we admire, basking in their beauty. But so many times, we come back also, analyzing everything that we think they have that we don't. So we constantly watch these make up gurus and read these blogs, trying to transform ourselves into the perfect Sara, Ashley, or Khabi that we can be. We forget to find the beauty within ourselves, even though we hear it repeated through our heads over and over again.

I love this project that a friend of mine, Lilian made about the definition of beauty. She really hit all the insecurities that we women face on a day to day basis. I admire her for being so creative and touching on such a topic that we often like to ignore or shy away from. Check her out. It is really beautiful.

Graduations...

I cannot wait till I am in your shoes this coming December, InshaAllah (God willing). I was so excited to see people that I have come to love in the past 3 years, walk across the stage. Congratulations to you all. It was fun seeing everyone and meeting their families. Next year will truly not be the same without you guys.

God's Print...

Last night I went to an amazing concert that one of my friends put together. It was called God's Print Concert. There was praise dancing, singing, poetry, acting, and a really good preacher stood up at the end and delivered a beautiful message. As you all know, I am Muslim (if you didn't, well now you do). However, I do go out to many different events hosted by all religious back grounds. You never know who you could learn something from. And that's what I did last night, I learned. As well as cried, sang, and a lot of other things.

You could feel the love and amazement in that room last night. It just helped me appreciate people from different cultural and religious backgrounds more. I guess I never really though about how people worshiped God in other religions. For Muslims, it's the same all around. But for Christians, you could tell that Whites and Blacks did it differently, however it wasn't a problem because as long as they were doing it for the Lord, everything was alright. I have a new found respect for them. I also found out a lot about myself. It felt good.

As amazing as it was, you know I had to dress as equally amazing. The attire was "classy" so that's what I aimed for. I loved that the admission at the door was a canned food or an article of clothing that would be donated to The Bride of Lubbock, to help families during Thanksgiving. I applaud my friend Lilian for putting together such an amazing show.

Tiffany, I, and Rukayat looking amazing as all ways.

Just a regular Wednesday...

Yesterday, I was running all over the place. I had a paper due, so I pulled an all nighter. I'm not sure if you can tell by my face. But I think my boss could because she kept urging me to go home and get some rest. However, I have bills to pay and a mouth to feed. I couldn't afford to miss another day. Even though I was sick, I still looked good doing it.

I always say never walk out the house looking like a hobo because you never know who you might run into. Well I surely did run into someone I wasn't expecting to. A former potential Mr. Someone Special decided to make an appearance in my life again. It was short lived, however. But forewarning, always be prepared!
