Keeping the Dream...

This past weekend was so amazing. I cannot believe how blessed I truly am. It still blows my mind how incredible it has been. I gave up going to the Collegiate 100 retreat to stay in Lubbock to perform on Saturday in a play titled "Keeping the Dream" and to perform at The Red Carpet Woman hosted by the Powder Room Women's Ministry.  I gave a chance to make a lifetime of memories with my friends and my favorite organization to make memories of my own that will help me later on in life.

I was approached by Lady Bridgette Stubblefield and Pastor Stubblefield to come up with a poem for the occasion. It was a huge honor. Then that evening I performed along side some amazingly talented performers. The play blew my mind. We had the liberty to perform the play Friday afternoon to the girls of Project New, a mentoring project that I have just embarked on with the Women of Collegiate 100. I received amazing feedback at every performance and I just felt elevated. We will be performing "Keeping the Dream" again April 17th. I hope I can add some more powerful pieces to it, if they'll let me.

I'm not sure where this poetry thing is going or where it will take me, but I'm starting to love the feeling of being on stage and forcing people to feel my words, how I want them to experience it. Now I take a great sense of pride in standing on stage and sharing these poems that tell the stories of my life, of my soul. InshaAllah it's making some type of difference.

I guess you could say, I found my way.

Feeling a little free...

With all the craziness going on in the world and my life right now, sometimes I need a little break. And I have found the best escape in my secret lover Mos Def AKA Yasiin Bey. His music just wraps around my body and soothes my soul. If there is anyone who is better with words than this man, I'd marry him in a heart beat.

These are my favorite 3 songs that I could keep on repeat everyday for the rest of my life. For some reason, I find inspiration in my everyday life when I listen to him. Especially when I feel like giving up and going to live under a bridge. Alhamdulillah (Thank God) for him. So peep game...

Falling...

Yes. Fall is finally coming upon us. I am so excited. You guys can keep your spring and your summers. I am a fall kinda gal. I love cardigans and sweaters and blazers and boots and hats and beanies and scarves and stuffs and stuffs. Since it is around the corner, let's talk about things that I am obsessed with, but things that are a must have for fall.

Hats and Beanies...
To keep noggin and ears warm when you mane doesn't quite do the job.

Ankle boots...
To keep your toes warm. Plus, they are just super cute.

Spacious tote bag...
To carry the extra essentials that you need at this time. Out with the cross body bags.

Knee high boots...
     For added extra warmth.

Gloves...
I personally prefer leather for those unexpected snowball fights.

Man Of the Month: August's Special Edition

I typically like to take my own pictures for Man Of the Month, but who knows when the next time I would be in New York to capture this devilishly handsome gentlemen. So I made a compromise (don't get used to it). I stumbled upon him a little over a year ago through Tumblr (yes, he was my Tumblr crush back in the day, gotta love social media), and I just had to have him on my blog. He is such an amazing photographer and a really down to earth person. Junior Senat, who I would never have guessed is of Haitian decent, is a Physical Therapy Student at SUNY Downstate. Only 21 years old, but can you see he's going places? Time for the rest of you to step up your game.

KA: So... what's your story?
JS: I’m just your typical young adult trying to leave my imprint on the world.
KA: What made you pick up a camera?
JS: I was always interested in pictures but never really decided to invest in a camera until I really was searching for a hobby so I figure I should get serious and buy a camera.
KA: How would you describe you style?
JS: Simplistically Complex
KA: Where do you find inspiration?
JS: In everyday people. Everyone has a story and I’d love to show their story
KA: Who influenced your work the most and how?
JS:Can’t pinpoint just one person or thing. I find inspiration in the most random things.
KA: If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?
JS: My one superpower would be super speed. I would get to do everything I would ever want to do.
KA: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
JS: In 5 years, I’ll be a full time Doctor Of Physical Therapy, a full time photographer, and a nomad.

I'm coming for this vest. Don't say I didn't warn you.
