Man Of the Month: January's Disappointment...

Sorry my loves. I got so caught up in everything that is going on in my life that I completely forgot that January was ending so fast. Hence the reason why there will not be a MOM for January. I completely dropped the ball. And it's entirely too last minute for me to interview anyone (I promise I tried). So next month, I will make it up to you.

Again, I am terribly sorry.

Introducing...

If you guys have been keeping up with me, you'll know that I went to Minnesota this past Christmas break. While on my trip, I actually got up in front of people and performed a poem. For the first time since like middle school. It's not that I'm afraid of talking in public, that's easy. But when I have to perform a poem that I wrote, it's like I'm sharing a piece of me with the audience. I really do take my emotions and thoughts and transform them into words that are intricately woven together to inflict a certain reaction to my listeners. I want you to hear the passion, pain, and thought that went into every word selection.

If you've never read any of my poems, just go to the top of the page and click on the tab titled "My mind jumble." Many of them are posted on there. Sorry if there are spelling or grammatical errors. I just forget to go back and correct them.

Below is the video of my first performance. I had no idea my friend was recording. I was kind of sad that I didn't get my first time perform on camera, but I was pleasantly surprised earlier this week. The name of the poem was "It's my time."  How did I do for my first time?

Side note: You can skip to 3:30 if you don't want to listen to the kid before me.

Alaia Rose Barbier

I swear this little girl is the cutest thing I have ever laid eyes on. This beauty hasn't even reached 3 yet, and she's setting and breaking trends left and right. I can only imagine how fabulous she will be when she grows older. We see where her mother gets it from. Monica Rose is one of Hollywood's most respected stylist. The exceptionally fashionable toddler Alaia and her mommy have become an inspiration to all parents that are trying spruce up their kids' style in a way that is chic and age appropriate.

This gorgeous beauty was crowned as LA's Most Stylish Kid last year, and I see why. It is a well deserved title for a little fashionista like that. Check her out.

Something beautiful...

Sometimes we get caught up in the craziness of life that we forget to slow down and take a moment to breathe. Well while I was on the go-go-go, I stumbled upon this quote and thought I should share it. It's going to be my quote of the week because I find it divinely inspiring.

“Your graciousness is what carries you. It isn’t how old you are, how young you are, how beautiful you are, or how short your skirt is. What it is, is what comes out of your heart. If you are gracious, you have won the game.” -Stevie Nicks

Stay beautiful!

Happy MLK!!

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is: "What are you doing for others?"
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Happy Martin Luther King day everyone. It has been such a beautiful day filled with laughter and fun. Texas Tech University's African Student Organization held a kickback on this glorious day in history. I know I should have been giving back to the community, but I couldn't pass up a chance to stuff my face. The food was just so good. But I shall try and do better though out the year.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a vital figure of the modern era and a pivotal figure in the Civil Rights movement. His lectures and dialogues raised concern and sparked the conscience of an entire generation. His charismatic leadership inspired men and women of all ages, in this nation and around the world. Because of him, I am able to even attend a university of over 31,000 students where approximately 68% of the students are White, 15% is Hispanic, and only 4.5% are Black. My school may not be diverse, but it sure does recognize diversity and respects it. In all that he has done for my family, this country, and the entire world, I have to simply say thank you.

Yummy yummy in my tummy...

Yesterday, my lovely roommate Shamaya, and I decided to spend some quality time together. We noticed that our schedules do not correspond this semester and it kind of made us sad. I love my roommates, especially Shamaya. I don't like going days without seeing them, which seems like it's going to be a reoccurring event this semester. So we decided to hit up Red Mango because she hears me raving about it all the time. We really did have fun.

I decided to take pictures because most of my outfits revolve around work. I doubt I have ever posted a picture with me in something casual. So... here goes.

Side note: Notice that we have on the exact same cardigan. We realized that as we were getting in the car.

Jummah Mubarak...

It's Friday!!!!! I know I'm excited. MLK day is on Monday so most of us get to enjoy a 3 day weekend. My main plan is to sleep, sleep, and sleep some more. However, before I could do that I had to get through the day which was very eventful. After work and class, I went to Jummah and then had lunch with a couple of my friends. Then my best friend, Asma and I ran over to Red Mango for some frozen yogurt which was 10 times better than Spoonful. I an in love with the white peach flavor.

I then was sucked into going out to 2 kick backs later that night. I was too lazy to change out of my clothes, into something else, so I probably was entirely over dressed for the occasions. But hey, they see me on campus. They should know me by now. I really am in love with this outfit though.
