Blogs...

Is it just me, or do you love reading different blogs too? I love reading peoples opinions on different things, see what they are up to, and peeping all the latest trends in fashion. I always seem to have a new favorite blog. I keep my old rotation, but I love to throw some new one's in the mix here and there. So let's see what's new to the rotation.

Just My Type- When you want a little insight on different things that make you go "Ah ha", this is the perfect blog. It states the obvious, but most of us wouldn't even think of it. If you ever have free time, this is a good read.

No, I'm Not Talking To Myself- My favorite professor has a blog. It's funny to read about things that go on in her head or in her life. It's great to know a professor in a different capacity. It makes them seem way more human.

Hey Fran Hey- For anything and everything natural. From hair to food to exercise, this girl has it going on. She can give you a natural remedy for pretty much anything. I mainly love her natural hair advise and recipe suggestions. I made a mean spaghetti squash from one of her recipes.

Chic Street Style- I am in love with this girl's style. I would gladly trade for her closet any day(in my size of course). She talks about fashion, styles, and now she's started a series called The budget Breakdown. I'm definitely going to need that in the near future.

Individualism-  Last but not least, my favorite blog so far. A lot of the blog talks about men's fashion, which I am obsessed with. But it's really about expressing yourself and being comfortable in who you are to wear what ever you please. As long as you're comfortable and confident, no one can say anything. And if they do, you can tell them to go suck it.

Kushn...

So...  I love discovering new things. And in honor of black history month, I have been looking for designers that bring together both of my heritages and exemplifies the true essence of African-American. I'm so happy I stumbled upon Kushn. I love wearing anything that reminds me of my Nigerian heritage. Ankara will always be a staple in my wardrobe. The leather and Ankara mix reflects a dynamic, colorful, and creative Africa. All the pieces are versatile and fun. I think I have to get something for my laptop. Their prices are a bit steep, but where else can you get something like this?

The check list...

Don't you just love the internet? You can find anything and everything on here (not sure if that's a good or bad thing). Well I was on the wonderful Pinterest (follow me guys) when I happened to stumble upon this wonderful wardrobe basics checklist and I thought I would share it. I found that even I do not have every item on this list. But that shall soon change when I make my expedition to Mall of America in 2 weeks. Hope this helps (=

If you do not have a Pinterest, you should get one because it helps when you're trying to plan events, or outfit choices. Oh and is a really good distraction during finals week. lol.

Am I childish...

So... ever since I was a little girl I wanted to either be a model or a ballerina. Well I'm 5 foot 3, so I guess modeling is kind of out the question. And since I never went to ballet school, I doubt my feet can handle the pressure now. However I never gave up on the idea of tutus. I am absolutely in love with them. So when Sarah Jessica Parker wore that amazing green one on Sex and the City while she was in Paris, I knew I could not give up on my dream. Well I have searched high and low for that dress/skirt with no avail (if anyone could find out where I could get one, I would love you forever). But I have found a few people who have the same dream that I do (I went as a ballerina last Halloween) Maybe one day I can get my hands on one. But in the mean time, I can hope and dream...

That amazing green dress.

My wish list...

Just when you thought my closet couldn't get any larger, I have tons of items that I plan on purchasing soon (fingers crossed). I find that my style changes a little bit every season, so I have to find things that accommodates my new look. So far though, I find myself constantly lusting over the following items, no matter what season it is. I'm a shoe junkie/addict so most of them are shoes. But... yeah. And just fyi... Christmas is coming up... and Hanukkah... and Kwanzaa.... and it could even be a late Eid present. lol.

Thrifting 101...

Some people cringe at the idea of wearing previously owned cloths (get off your high stool). However, I love it. You find the most amazing things in second hand shops that you would never find at Forever 21 or Macy's. Especially not at that price. You never know what you might find. But sometimes thrifting can be a pain. You spend hours looking through racks, and you wont find a single thing. Well, at least you had a great time looking through stuff from the 50's. lol.

Here are a few tips to help make your trip a little easier.
  1. Start early! That way all the old people don't come in and steal all the good stuff. Ask at the counter what day they receive new shipment, and come the following day. That way you can get first dibs on the goods.
  2. Leave your friends at home!!! I cannot stress this enough. You might think that you need a friend to tell you what looks good and what doesn't. Trust me, you don't. You should have more trust in your abilities. You'll understand what I'm saying when she keeps finding all the cute stuff, and you're stuck with they ugly grandma sweaters.
  3. Allot an adequate amount of time for you to do a through search of the store. You never know where you might find a gem. You might want to stop at Starbucks before hand so you can have enough energy to truly hunt, as I like to call it.
  4. Budget yourself! It's easy to go in there and get carried away. Those grandma loafers are not worth cutting into your rent money.
  5. Don't limit yourself to just one section. Explore everything. The men's section makes a perfect place to find over sized flannel shirts, just in time for winter. And the kids section too. Can anyone say high waisted shorts? Kids jeans are perfect for this, and are typically cheaper than adults. I know you wouldn't want to pay 20 bucks at Charlotte Ruse on a pair of jeans, just to destroy them. Or even drop $25 on shorts you can make yourself.
  6. Try on everything. No matter how gross it sounds, it would suck to buy something that doesn't fit you correctly or that doesn't flatter your figure. They actually wash the clothes before they put them out. But I would just take precaution and take a super bath afterwards.
  7. Dress comfortably. Please do not wear a super complicated outfit to go thrifting. It will only make things more complicated, duhh.
Not sure where you local thrift store is? Google is your best friend. Or you can always check out goodwill or salvation army.

Do you have any other tips that might help make a thrifting trip easier? Let me know.

Happy thrifting.

That is not your size...!

So... this morning as I was getting off the bus, I noticed a girl wearing a pair of boots that she thought were her size. I'm sorry, but if the opening of your boot will not go past you calf and they are supposed to hit your knee, those boots are not for you. I do not understand why people feel the need to try and stuff themselves into items that do not fit them. What is so wrong with buying cloths that are made for your body? If you are a size 12, you need to find a way to make that size 12 look fabulous, instead of trying to squeeze yourself into a 9. Because that 9 is only going to make it more obvious that you are not a 9.

However, having ill fitting clothes does not always mean that everything is too tight. Sometimes over sized items can be cute. But if you are 5 foot 3, 165 lbs, you do not need to shop in the big and tall section.

Okay, now I am off my soap box. Here are a few examples (mostly for laughs) of what I am talking about. If you are guilty, you need to reevaluate your wardrobe choices and make better decisions.

Out and About...

I started to feel a bit sick earlier this week, and today it hit me. I came home to take a nap before class, after I got off work. Well, when I awoke, a storm felt like it was taking place in my stomach, my head was spinning, and my throat sounded like a lion's roar. Yupp... I was indeed sick. So after a long nap, a team of medication, and a lot of fluids, I felt a little better. Better enough to allow my roommate to coax me from indoors to venture out to Starbucks and a few pictures. It was much needed. Thanks Ana. (=
