Kushn...

So...  I love discovering new things. And in honor of black history month, I have been looking for designers that bring together both of my heritages and exemplifies the true essence of African-American. I'm so happy I stumbled upon Kushn. I love wearing anything that reminds me of my Nigerian heritage. Ankara will always be a staple in my wardrobe. The leather and Ankara mix reflects a dynamic, colorful, and creative Africa. All the pieces are versatile and fun. I think I have to get something for my laptop. Their prices are a bit steep, but where else can you get something like this?

I'm a Barbie Girl...

Barbie: perfectionism at its finest. I can remember the glory days of my childhood where I was always experimenting with my Barbies, playing along side my little sister. I was oh so fond of hacking her hair off and changing up her style every now and then. Every Christmas, birthday, or Eid, I would anticipate the arrival of a new doll for me to play with. Till this day I can remember the first time my grandmother handed me an African American Barbie doll. That's when all my hopes and dreams came true.

Many people are probably like o.0 lol, but it's true. Growing up, listening to Barbie's fairy tale, she had it all. The dream house, the dream car, as many careers as you could imagine, and the dream boyfriend. But for me, it seemed like only a Caucasian girls life style. My mom always taught me that I could could be anything and anybody that I wanted if I set my mind to it. But that day my grandmother put that African American Barbie in my hand, I knew that I could really accomplish it.

I guess it was a 7 year olds pipe dream to have it all. Regardless of what main stream society may say about Barbie and Zsa Zsa Gabor, the lady who Barbie was first created after, she taught me that you could have it all: A career, a social life, a family, and a great pair of shoes for every day of the year. You know how I love shoes...

And a African American Ken to match!

Spring 2013 Trends...

I love looking at new trends for the up coming year because it gives me something to look forward to. As you can tell, I am simply in love with fashion. But some times I just chalk it up to my wanting to stare at something beautiful all the time and I believe that is what fashion gives us. With that being said, I am not a firm believer in trends, and even more so that I hardly follow them. But they are fun to look at.

Some of the major trends from last year have continued to inspire designers to create the following trends for the upcoming Spring and Summer. Peplum, leather, and bold hues were seen every where on the runways. I'm not sure if it's because they couldn't come up with anything new, or because that just love the same trends from last year. But let's take a look.

1. Peplum-

Honestly, I hate this trend. Maybe because it doesn't work for my body type. But I believe it's because it adds an unnecessary piece of fabric that is awkwardly placed. However, people believe that it is very feminine and creates a "hour-glass" figure.

2. Leather-
For this spring, it seems as though leather is still going strong. I love a great leather jacket, but you know, high fashion takes it up a notch.

3. Bight and bold hues- 
I am not one to wear who has the juevos to wear the entire rainbow all at once, but hey, some people like it. And if you can pull it off green, mauve, blue, orange, yellow, and teal, more power to you.

Monday Madness...

I feel like all I ever do is run around. Today was no exception. Between work, school, and all these organizations that I'm trying to be an "active member" in, I need to take a moment to breathe.
