JETLAG NEXTLEVEL. He's taking off. Mohammad Sadiq Jr. is a Civil Engineering Senior at Texas Tech University. But around campus he is more commonly known as Jetlag. This Nigerian native thinks he's from Houston (he's a Dallas boy). With pride in his country, he uses his accent to showcase his background. Lets take a peek into the man behind the mic.
KA: Where did the name Jetlag come from?
MS: Honestly, at first it was just something that sounded cool. But I knew people were going to ask me where it came from, so I decided to put a meaning behind it. I was born and raised in Lagos, plus I'm flyer than everybody else, so that's where the name came from. I'm going places.
KA: Tell us a little bit about Mohammad Sadiq...
MS: Mohammad Sadiq is an ambitious guy who has a big heart. I have a drive and passion for anything I set my eyes on. I'm a love guy from a family of five kids. I'm the oldest, so I have to take care of business and provide a good example for my younger siblings.
KA: What made you start making music?
MS: I use to make beats when I was younger, around 12 or 13. So I was more interested in that, but then I figured why just make beats for other people, when I can just rap myself.
KA: Who would you say influenced you most throughout your life?
MS: My mom... Just seeing where she came from and what she's achieved. She came up from nothing, and achieved her dreams. Now she has her MD and is making a difference in so many peoples lives. That is the most beautiful and hard working woman I have ever met in my life. How do you combine being a full time house wife, full time mother, and full time medical doctor? My future wife has some big shoes to fill.
KA: Who is your biggest inspiration?
MS: Barak Obama all day. That is my hommie G. He has swag and charisma. He is a very articulate individual who see's what he wants, and goes after it. For him to even think about running for President, and over coming all the obstacles in being a black male in the United States, I have to applaud him for his efforts. And I wish Michelle had a younger sister my age, lol.
KA: Speaking of swag and charisma, how would you describe your style?
MS: I would say my style is simple, but I don't like to come out the house looking plain. Some people say that I over do it, but when people say that I know I'm actually achieving my goal. I like to be unique and stand out. I'm a dare devil. I like to put things together that makes me stand out.
